The Yachats river mouth is sensitive to subtle changes in tides, so I was able to get some footage of the recent tsunami waves that came from the massive earthquake in Japan. This particular wave occurred about 10:15 AM on Friday March 11th, 2011. As you can see, the tide is rather low, and the entire river mouth floods from the wave, and heads upstream towards the Yachats River. Video taken with a Blackberry Storm 2 9550.
I apologize for the different languages spoken, my wife speaks Spanish!
I have a few more videos with smaller tsunami waves, I'll try to prepare and upload them soon!

  • i i was telling telling the guy guy below me that yachats is safe......

    hi john

  • yup, yachats is safe, the rivermouth is really the only depressed area around...there are a few houses in the traditional flood area, but it's mostly bedrock around the town, and fairly stable hillsides (versus the surrounding area with alot of houses built on sand)
