so, find a wrestler you know and buy him lunch in exchange for some training, have him teach you and your guys how to drill the takedowns right, and then you can practice defending them with eachother. Don't make the same mistake as the wing chun community and put your head in the sand, you have to practice it or you're in trouble. 52 is an emergent style that should stand on the shoulders of everything that's been learned in MMA, incorporate it all and retain what works.
-
Then once you have neutralized them structurally, you can frame their neck with your elbow to push away and create space, at which point you can deliver knees and elbows effectively because you have arrived at a clinch position where it is appropriate to do so. The chalenge of course is to neutralize the grappler structurally when their whole art is based on winning structurally with balance and body mechanics, this takes practice. A lot of practice.
-
So, you have to assume that since the one who is going to use it on you know how to do it right, they are going to be in on you before you can effectively defend with striking because it will be set up in combination to use your reactions. So what you need is a defense that works when you are already in that circumstance. That defense is to redirect the momentum at a right angle and defend yourself structurally, whether that be a simple angle hip twist sprawl or a whizzer with an uchi-mata, etc.

@Kazmundio Most of the time the leg shot is attempted when you have ducked under your opponent's jab or by setting it up with strikes to the head forcing your opponent to defend high, so that the distance is closed in rhythm. Most fighters know how to fake a shot and throw a hook when their opponent drops to defend it as well, the combos go both ways. So anyhow, if a defense only works against an improperly done technique, you don't need it, because they won't use it if they don't know it.

@Kazmundio Claps to the back of the neck would be more effective but still not enough to make the difference. Knees are effective but only if the persons timing os terrible and you see in coming a mile away, ie. against an incorrectly performed takedown attempt. The jab is a good way to keep distance, but that is not the distance that a leg shot is performed from. That is a familiar angle of pressure to a grappler, and they are able to clear it very quickly.

Now, I know that this has probably been said before in the comments, but anyhow, it's well known from the early days of sport fighting, when it was called no-holds-barred or "vale-tudo" that the downward elbow is not an effective defense against the leg shots, because you don't have your base when the person is pushing you backwards. The spine and ribs are very strong to protect the organs, and there is just not enough power in that circumstance to do enough damage to stop their throw.

u have to respect the science of 52 and hand movemnets, else ure gonna get knocke out, great defence and positive protection. peace .

I don't think I've ever ran into a jiu-jitsu school who even uses a green belt. White, blue, purple, brown, black. (red, if you're a Gracie)
D@mn Im really excited about this fighting style.. I told my pops a while back (who used to spar with me everynow and then) that his style reminded me of Joe Frasier.
I want to master this shit. This style totally ressonates with me.
It almost feels like seeing deejaying for the first time again (well not quite).

Please note that my comments start below and continue from one another up to here. Down to up.
..... you have to be creative and ready to eal with the 52 counter. Lateral motions are probably the best and should be followed with a punishing answer. I'm just trying to get a chess like discussion on 52 to see how its most respected ambassador will respond. How do you teach your students to take care of their elbows, wrists and shoulders to avoid injury from the blunt trauma of the strikes?

they are taught to condition there weapons and sheilds because you have to give in a fight so your body must be condition to give but even though some believe the 52 fighter jumps in only worried about trying to block everything odviously knows little about boxing 52 is situational meaning i'm jabbing you throw a counter right over my jab i use skull and crossbones to defend lateral motion and throw back the counter right thats it

.... with all defensive postures they thrive off of offensive one's. If your opponent isn't engaging you into a scrap your no longer effective because there's no rhythm for you to counter against. I bet as you became proficient in 52 you started to see that you can't do much unless their giving you something to play off of. So if I were in the other corner or toe to toe with you... I would have to keep my knight back behind the pawns too, you know. With attacking the 52 elbow...

well if the opponent dosen't strike then there is no fight which is the best fight of them all but if i'm in a tournament fight and your standing there the jab goes to work which is also your defensive weapon and you can work off your jab
