how do u justify length

I usually use about 2 -2 1/2 feet of cord or string. Its better to have too much sting than to have too little when your trying to make a necklace and run out and have to tie more string on to finish it. That happened to me alot when i was first starting out.

Wonderful tutorial. I do have a question, does macrame have to be made with hemp? Are there any other kinds of string one can use for this type of craft? I have a ton of yarn, this is why I'm asking, lol.
