This 2005 Toyota Matrix has a bad case of engine sludge. In this video I take you thru the teardown of this sludged up 1.8L 4 cylinder engine. Engine code 1ZZ-FE. I hope you enjoy this video. Hopefully somebody out there will learn from this video. Please leave me your comments.

  • It really depends on how bad the sludge is. There are products out there that can "flush" an engine out. Be careful though, if it has a lot of deposits it can dislodge large pieces at a time and clog the oil pickup screen. That can lead to oil starvation which can be a disaster. I would recommend a conventional oil instead of synthetic for now. Try changing the oil every 1000 miles or so a few times, then reevaluate sludge to see if its working. Change the oil filter every time for sure!

  • I recently bought a Toyota Camry with a sludge problem. Is it possible to clean the engine out slowly using synthetic oil or anything like an engine additive?
