(Jan. 27, 2010) Israeli President Shimon Peres delivered a historic speech to the German Bundestag on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The speech was the central part of a special session convened by the German Parliament, hosted by President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert, and attended by German President Horst Koehler, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, German President of the Federal Constitutional Court Hans-Jürgen Papier, and members of the German Parliament.
The speech marked the highlight of the President's three-day state visit to Germany, during which he was accompanied by a delegation of Israeli youth and holocaust survivors. The German government received President Peres warmly, accompanying his entrance with three phantom fighter jets and receiving him upon landing with a gun salute. The President held a special memorial service with his delegation and the President of Germany at the famous platform 17 of the Grunewald train station, from which 55,000 of Berlin's Jews were expelled. The President also met with Chancellor Merkel who express German impatience with the Iranian government. Following the visit, the President continued to the World Economic Forum at Davos.

Dear Pres. Peres
Jan. 27 was my birthday and i FEEL it a gift that you spoke on it RE: The Jewish Holocaust because my maternal Grandfather was a Polish Jew who died before I could learn how many of our relatives were gassed and fried because good people did NOTHING for too very long.
My heart is also broken over the other 5+MILLION more who were deemed 'outcasts' and terrorized and murdered by the 3rd Reich's IDEOLOGY of SUPREMACY of a particular religion and people.
