During pregnancy, moms are often inundated with conflicting and impassioned positions on what constitutes the best birth choice. At Mindful Mama, our firm opinion is that nothing is black or white—especially birth—and each situation warrants careful consideration of all the options available. Through a series of video interviews with over 20 leading doctors, midwives, advocates and authors, we aim to deepen the conversation, find areas of common ground instead of division, and present ways for every woman to have an inspired, safe birth—wherever and however is best for her.

May 10- August 10, log on to www.mindful-mama.com/Rites of Passage, watch the Rites of Passage interviews and answer this question: How did becoming a parent transform you?

Rites of Passage features the leading voices in natural birth and parenting, including:

Ina May Gaskin, Certified Professional Midwife, is the founder and director of The Farm Midwifery Center in Tennessee (USA). She is the author of Spiritual Midwifery (1975) and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (2003). She has been a home birth midwife for more than 35 years.

Ricki Lake, executive producer of The Business of Being Born and coauthor of Your Best Birth, has played a leading role in multiple television shows and feature films, including Cry Baby, Cookie, Working Girl, and Mrs. Winterbourne. Ricki was the host of The Ricki Lake Show from 1992 to 2004.

Penny Simkin, Physical Therapist, co-founded DONA International and has specialized in childbirth education, labor support, and birth counseling since 1968. She is the author of many books on birth for both parents and professionals, including The Birth Partner.

Michel Odent, MD, is known as the obstetrician who introduced the concept of birthing pools and home-like birthing rooms. He has published 21 books, including The Scientification of Love, The Farmer and the Obstetrician, and The Cesarean.
