I have only been learning to play guitar for about 5 months. But I still wanted to record this for Nathan. I obviously struggled with it a little in the 3rd verse. But I probably recorded it about 60 times today, and this is the only time I got all the way through it without actually hitting a 'wrong' note. I got the tabs from ultimate-guitar.com and I recorded this the first day that I learned to play it, so it's still a little rough. I played it the way the tabs were, but the 8th note of the song doesn't sound right to me, and it doesn't sound right to my wife either. I searched around the fretboard for other notes that may sound closer, but I couldn't find any so I just played it the way it was printed. And I did tune my guitar with an electronic tuner before I started. So, rough as it is, this is my tribute to everyone who protects our freedom in all of the services, and all of the veterans of those services. Someday when I grow up maybe I can play it even better and I can record it again.

  • Awesome. I gave up on guitar far too soon and am envious. This was played at our wedding reception in PA twice so it does have some special meaning for both of us. Thanks, Larry. Carry on, crazy.

  • @dodint #1 you are far too kind. #2 I never knew you practiced guitar. #3 I actually feel like I could spend 10 minutes with you, and possibly have you making the exact same noises I am making. I have heard many people say "It's not the player, It's the equipment". I have a pretty big amp, and I insisted on finding a guitar with a floyd rose bridge for the diving whammy bar effects. Anyway though, much thanks to you!! :)

  • @StovetopMusic You never asked. ;) When I was about 14 I bought a used electric guitar and amp that I found in the classifieds. You know, paper Craigslist. And I took a few lessons. I didn't last very long, never even learned tabs. My goal was to learn a few Pink Floyd songs.
