This is NHL 2004 with the 'beta' version of the 1996-1997 mod installed by jimboni at flyermania. This mod is similar to the modern mod but with all the graphics, rosters, and more from the 1996-97 season. Just a sample clip of Hartford vs Vancouver. The video quality isn't great because I recorded it with a trial version of fraps and did this on my laptop which doesn't run the game well on Vista. I also haven't installed the full version of the mod so that's why there's a sportsnet scoreboard and stuff. You can get newer versions of the 2010-2011 mod at and also download the 96/97 or 2001 mod from:
http://z15.invisionfree.com/NHL04Rebuilt/index.php

This was played at the difficulty setting (not using a gamepad on this one so my control is terrible) at 800x600 without the HDR mod. I haven't installed all the updates to this version of the game yet (the score clock is from the modern mod).

I really recommend getting this game. With the mod, you can make it more challenging and more realistic than any of the newer titles. You can buy the game online for around $5 or download from torrent.

The song is Vinternoll2 by Sweden's finest band, kent.

  • You can actually select the scorebard before you start the game. I didn't bother to update the scoreboard from the 2010 mod but you can choose old CBC or whatever before you play. I dunno if the crowds can be updated, they can but dunno if anyone has done it. You can install a playoff (whiteout crowd) though. Also, check the new site for more info: (google NHL 2004 rebuilt 2010-2011) as this mod has also been updated.

  • Yeah the speed is too fast because I didn't adjust the AI settings here, the game is better at the slwoer speed. Yeah Sportsnet didn't exist back then, you can choose the scoreboards, there's CBC, NBC, ESPN, local TV stations for each team, European ones, I think there's at least 40+ scoreboards in the mod but I dunno if they've designed any for the 96/97 mod because this is basically a different version of the 2009-2010 mod.

  • @avalanchesuperstar It called sarcasm.

I'm aware of the Nordiques/Jets exist. i however was wrong about the Nords, they didn't moved in 1995. I just accidentally clumped them together. The Jets should exist if this was based on the 1996 offseason

  • @de132 The Nordiques moved after 1994-95. They won the 1996 stanley cup as Colorado,

All the people commenting on this video aren't very intelligent.

  • @cm1095 That's probably the stupidest comment i've evr seen?

WTF? The Nordiques and Jets used to be NHL teams, the Jets moved to Phoenix, and the Nords moved to Colorado.

And i'm talking about the old Jets, not the current NHL team.

  • @mrkrinkle71 Who's Ozzy?

  • I thot this was an Ozzy video.....

  • Waitaminiit.... how come the fans are wearing the 1997-98 to 2006-2007 jerseys in the crowd?

  • @ChineseinCanada good eye, chinese guy :3

    Sportsnet started in 98

  • @cm1095 No, you twat.

The Jets and Nordiques never played in the CHL.

I was wondering whether this was the offseason of 95-96 season heading to the 96-97 season, then the Jets and Nordiques would have exist.

I install, no Jets and Nordiques, they are replaced by the Coyotes(Jets) and Avalanches(Nordiques)
