You're going a bit too far by saying he's not a real musician, but I think his playing is a little too "neat". Doesn't go too good with this kind of dirty (in a good way) Blues if you ask me. But he sure can play !

My personal favorite era for Clapton was his early stuff when he had that Yardbirds sound, but I've always had a soft spot for J.J. Cale's "Cocaine".
