On Thursday 9th April 50026 was started outside the factory at the now closed Old Oak Common for the first time since being withdrawn from service 18 years earlier . At around 2.40 minutes the loco shuts down with low coolant as the last of the remaining air is cleared through the system. The header tank is then topped up and the loco is re started and run for several minutes.
Stuff still to do but a big, big step in the restoration of the loco.......... Farewell Old Oak Common

  • 16csvt I deleted your comment in error sorry... The hissing noise is being caused by a decompression plug on B bank not sealing correctly, problem now sorted.

  • We conquered the world, we had an empire. Our engineering pioneered travel and the put " Great " into Britain - now all our industries have gone, we don't seem to make things anymore and we get crap from China and to add insult to injury, import class 66's and 67's and had a mass scrapping and ended up with not enough rolling stock - what an absolute shambles.

  • Yeah, stick yer 220's get these back on! BR refit murdered them anyway, they were probably the best Loco's of their day and were way ahead of their time.

Having said that look for the Hawker siddeley Kestrel 4000 (another feat of great English engineering which got Killed)

  • Is that the battery box smoking underneath?

  • these things lost to EMDs...

  • the smoke is a cunning design, it was to make the steam engine drivers feel more at home.........yes I am joking before anyone corrects me.
