This is footage I shot of the ceremonial Feather River Express as it passes through the Feather River Canyon on November 1, 2009. This is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Western Pacific railroad of November 1st, 1909. The train consists of Amtrak P42DC #184 and Western Pacific California Zephyr cars "Silver Lariat", "Silver Rapids", and "Silver Solarium".

We first see the train at Keddie, as it slowly rolls onto the Keddie Wye bridge and stops momentarily so that those on board the train could listen to a brief overview of the historic event of the driving of the golden spike at the wye during completion of the WPRR. Before long the train departs the wye and continues west.

We then see the train roll by at a few locations including Virgilia, the Serpentine Canyon, Tobin, Rock Creek trestle, and the west end of the siding at Pulga. We end our chase back at home, with one last shot at Oroville. I am here with YouTuber MarkConductor775.

Video responses welcome!

  • Nice! Why was it going so slow on the wye?

  • Part of a photo-op thing for the celebration of the driving of the golden spike on the wye during the ceremony of the completion of the Western Pacific in 1909.

  • @LostOzarkRambler You must've never chased a train through the FRC. Its extremely easy to catch a train a dozen times by doing the speed limit. 55MPH highway (equals about 62 or so, maybe 70 if you push it on the curves), and train speed of 25.

  • @LostOzarkRambler There was a chp following us almost the whole time during that chase.

  • Good thing the California Highway Patrol hasn't yet seen this video, you would surely get a speeding ticket for all of those miles in that little time. Nice shots.

  • Very nice locations and scenery.

  • Fantastic footage !

Thanks for posting this wonderful video .

  • Happy Birthday WP! Fitting anniversary, and good shots.

  • Nicely Done George!
