Today's top story is Sr. Pat Eck, CBS, receives High Honor from the Vatican.
This November 20, 2011 in a ceremony at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore Maryland, Sr. Pat Eck will receive the highest honor given to a member of a religious community by the Vatican.
The Papal award called the Cross Pro Ecclesai et Pontifice medal was instituted by Pope Leo XIII in 1888.
It is an honor bestowed upon lay people and clergy who have provided distinguished service to the Roman Catholic Church.
Sr. Pat entered religious life on September 11, 1966.
With a healthcare career that spans more than 40 years, she has served in several roles including clinical nursing, healthcare administration, sponsorship and governance for Bon Secours Health System.
Through the years, Sr. Pat has served on the Leadership team of the Sisters of Bon Secours, USA, and in 2006 she was one of the primary leaders in creating and structuring Bon Secours Ministries as a Public Juridic Person.
Sr. Pat is the current chairperson of Bon Secours Ministries.
Oh but wait, we're not finished.
She has been recognized nationally for her leadership in creating alignment between sponsorship and governance.
She served as chairperson of the Catholic Health Association.
In 2007 she received the Sister Mary Concilia Moran Award from CHA.
She served as chairperson of the Corporate Members of Mercy Housing and currently servess on the Catholic Medical Mission Board.
When asked about the Papal award she replied...in true Sr. Pat style, "I am grateful for the recognition of the long-standing presence of the Sisters in the Archdiocese, especially in Baltimore and Marriottsville. This is indeed an honor for us all."

In other news, and speaking of Bon Secours Ministries. On November 1, 2011 Bon Secours Ministries celebrated its 5th year as the Catholic Church sponsor of Bon Secours Health System.
In honor of this special occasion we thought we would take a few moments and remind you about Bon Secours Ministries and to share a little bit of background on each of the members of Bon Secours Ministries.
As you know, Bon Secours Ministries is the sponsor of Bon Secours Health System and its subsidiaries.
Bon Secours Ministries was created by the Vatican of the Catholic Church in May of 2006 as a public juridic person.
Now, a public juridic person is just the formal label to describe its relationship with the Church as a sponsor of ministries.
And as such Bon Secours Ministries assumed its responsibilities as the sponsor of BSHSI on November 1, 2006.
The request to create Bon Secours Ministries actually came from the Sisters of Bon Secours in order to expand and share the role of sponsorship to include their lay sisters and brothers.
The Sisters of Bon Secours remain an active part of Bon Secours Ministries . . . and BSM continues the healing mission of the Sisters .

Sr. Pat Dowling. In addition to serving on Bon Secours Ministries and many other responsibilities, Sr. Pat Dowling is the vocation director for the Sisters of Bon Secours, USA.
Sr. Pat Eck. Well, we just told you about Sr. Pat Eck.
Sr. Rose Marie Jasinski. Sr. Rosie serves as the country leader of the sisters in the US.
Sr. Anne Lutz. Sr. Anne is the Executive Vice President of Sponsorship for Bon Secours.
Charles H. Brown the III. Mr. Brown currently is a director and officer of Elling & Tucker, Chartered. He has served Bon Secours in some capacity since 1983.
Regina Clifton. Ms. Clifton is a Catholic lay woman who has ministered in catholic health care most of her life. Many of you may remember her from her years at CHA.
And Dr. Donald Seitz. Dr. Seitz is currently the chair of the Bon Secours Health System Board of Directors.
