Amazingly in WWI, there were some cavalry charges that were not only successful, but instrumental, such as at Beersheba in 1917, but the charges had become more costly than in the past, yet were still done because tanks were still unreliable at the time, getting stuck in the trenches, and they wanted to break the stalemate. There were even a couple odd charges in WWII, believe it or not..
