  • Hi Ben,

Great videos! Think you should do some more...maybe on the rare sand lizards that we get down here at Studland, Dorset. I think its brilliant to raise peoples awareness of the wildlife that they don't even realise we have, so we can move forward to protecting them.

Good luck with the rest of your work!

  • Wow, my ideal comment :) Thanks Helen. My grandma lives down in dorset, near Syudland and so I've had a little explore there myself, great place and what a perfect habitat eh?! I'd love to do a vid down there, maybe next month. Thanks a million for your comments,

    Ben

  • the main food source for british snakes is not amphibians, not for adders anyway, they feed mainly on mammals.

  • Thanks mate. Yup, larger adult adders will concentrate on the mammals and fledgling birds, as you know, but the grass and smooth snakes will prefer our amphibians due to their usual proximity to water (i'm sure you knew that as well) I need to say all this in a new video!! Thanks,

    ben

  • Thanks man (the quality of the video is so dodgy tho!! sorry). Yep, very easily found and handled, but very delicate. The smooth newt is the most common, then the palmate and the great crested (which are protected). They're amazing creatures when u get up close and personal to them and they really will take a small worm if its offered to them! Happy hunting,

    Ben

  • lol i got the same forest in my hometown in germany...i found lots of snakes there.

  • Awesome video mate!!

What kind of camcorder are you using?

    Thanks

  • Just for your information you will need to get permission from the National Trust before doing any filming there. However they have ecoogists that are studying them that may be able to help, give advice etc.
