A ride on Metro Transit's Northstar Commuter Rail line, from end to end- Big Lake, Minnesota, to downtown Minneapolis at Target Field. This is the third trip of the morning, departing Big Lake at about 6:30AM. Along the way, we hit the maximum allowed speed of 79 mph between Elk River and Anoka; make stops at Coon Rapids and Fridley, pass through BNSF's huge Northtown Yard with some interesting power waiting to go; pass by the Friends of the 261's historic Milwaukee Road passenger coaches and engine shop where work on the Milwaukee Road #261 steamer is performed; cross over the Mississippi River at Nicollet Island with beautiful views of the city skyline, then finally arrive at the Target Field station in downtown Minneapolis. I then go up the escalator and transfer to the Hiawatha Line light rail toward the airport and Mall of America.
~Thanks for watching!~
@Astroanagun - transferring from the Light Rail (which is now called the Blue Line) shouldn't be a problem, as transfers on the Metro Transit system work on all buses and trains for 2 1/2 hours. However, going from a Light Rail train back to the Northstar, you'll likely have to pay the fare difference, as the Light Rail fare is only $2.25, and the Northstar Rail fare can be upwards to $7, depending on how far you go
