One really has to wonder what Ray Stevens could have done musically had he taken a different route. However, I'm glad he didn't. I am dead serious when I say I think this guy is a genius. When you listen to this it has so many layers. It's funny, it's hip, it's satirical, and it's just great music.

wow i love this song. I was born in 1987 but my mom listened to this song and other oldies in her car and i always loved this song. Thank you mom for exposing me to a great collection of songs.

Of course Ray Stevens has been making novelty records since c.1962. I think 'Ahab the Arab' was one of his first hits. He does all the voices I'm sure, on ALL his records!! Quite a talent & quite wealthy. I once went into the front of his studio in Nashville & left a tape.
