It's coming back to me now. Earl's son, Ron Bostic was certainly the finest bass player I have ever had the pleasure to hear up close. Sure, he did all this fancy business on the 5-string fretless, but he also knew all the other parts. He would stop mid-rehearsal to teach the guitar his part, and venture down the piano-line just so everyone knew where he was in the tune. Poor "Grant Jr." could barely keep up!
Earl Bostic's son, --( Earl Jr. ?)-- was the bass player in our band in Brooklyn for a very short spell. He came with an equally serious partner, a prior drummer for James Brown. Between them it was like Sly & Robbie, or Jaco & Steve Gadd. -Too cool! Great find, Bluesboy.
