The tartan they wear is Cameron of Erracht which was the tartan worn by the pipes & drums and military band of the Queens own Highlanders....Not the Gordons

The Cameron of Erracht Tartan was worn by the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders I know that well from alol the swaddies who were able to reach ma wee arse wee their boots for many reasons not the least of which was Kiltyu Kilty Cauld Bum. I remeb er them marching to the station and war, and I remember the day they marched through their city for the last time. I had never seen my ncle who had done 3 years in a Jap camp cry he did that day for he was one of the3m.
I am nearly in tears remembering

I heard there where two pipers shot in the ankles. One in Waterloo, & one in Dargai. History repeated

The Pipers Name was Piper Findlater of the The 1st Battalion TheGordon Highlanders Bydand

The House of Gordon a major part of the power that was in the highlands of Scotland. Look up 'House of Gordon' online. You have a rich heritage of extremely brave men and women in your ancestry. The fighting Gordons have been decorated soldiers in many of the British campaigns around the world. BYDAND Forever!

You are correct PvtSchlock. Piper George Findlater badly wounded in both legs played on to encourage the 1st Battalion through the fire zone at Dargai 20th October 1897 and doing so won the Victoria Cross. A rare breed Pipers.

In your description you make it sound as though it was the english picking on the scottish regiments, don't forget that many english regiments have been merged as well, ad it wasn't wanted here either. It ain't just happening north of the border!

I dont know if this is the same Gordon highlanders that stormed the Dargai heights in 1897. If so the english are damned bastards. That was no parade march, the dorsetts and gurkhas got stuck and the Gordons carried the charge all the way to the top. Hell, I think I remember reading that one piper was shot though BOTH ankles, yet he still piped the charge. Hope I am mistaken.
is this the gordon highlanders or the highlanders?

well when the event was organised the word round the town was it was the last march of the gordon highlanders before they were to merge with others to become the highlanders. i dont like that they were merged i guess thats why there was a statue build in the school grounds to commemorate thier service and so that people never forget they were once a millitaty unit of thier own.
anyway back to the point i think they were officially the highlanders but unofficially gordon highlanders for that day

appologies i may have got it wrong. the main thing is the town turned out to see a great event and support our troops! for Huntly and Scotland!
i would also like to stress its taken by a camera phone so you can't expect to much. at least you see that the community rallies and loves events like this. Huntly - the family town!
