  • Gerald the skill master on the sax.....none better

  • Hey I'm a straight up main stream jazz lover. I've been exposed to a great deal of musicians and I know better than to try to compare any. One of the best albums I have in my collection is Gerald's live at birdland west, extraordinary work by Mr. Albright. I can sit here and tell you oh, this cat is better or this chick is better. The bottom line is that each individual has his or her own style & technique. My numero uno is Paquito D'Rivera, then Richie Cole (Alto Madness) and the list goes on

No doubt Greg... That is one of the finest renditions of Georgia that I've ever heard also, especially in a live recording. Like I said Gerald is one of the finest sax players in the Jazz genre going. The man can smoke that horn...

BTW Vincent Herring is also in my top ten...

  • @Jazzhog Gerald's Live at Birdland West has the finest version of the standard classic Georgia that I've heard. I had the good fortune to view Gerald perform it live during the early 90's at Seattle's Jazz Alley. The show was so good I must have returned for 4 more shows during his groups appearance that week. If I had a wish I'd love to place Gerald and Charlie Parker in the same room and listen to them exchange ideas.

Cease the moment to see him if the opportunity ever presents itself!

  • I have Gerald Albright's MY, My, My saved in my music file and I never get tired of hearing him hitting all those high notes. EXTRAORDINARY! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT!

  • Not to take anything away from any sax man out there but Gerald has a very distinctive and unique voice on the alto to say the least. That's what makes the difference between and average musician and a top notch one. Gerald is in the top ten, that is in my book...

  • please oh please lets not forget David Sanborn

  • Amen to that brother.... In my own humble opinion, of course.

  • did the bassist die?

  • Newport !

  • None of them touch Grover!
