God is defined in the modern day a supernatural being this is referenced as a deity. However the Title God in scripture does not refer to deity at all. If one believes that God means deity in the bible he or she will be confused and not understand the Bible. God is translated primarily from the Hebrew word Elohim in scripture. Elohim does not mean deity or supernatural being. A word from an ancient language in an ancient document can not be defined by the modern sense of the word doing so will cause the reader to error in understanding.

What is a God in scripture?

We can accurately define the word only by word usage

(Gen 23:6) Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty (Elohim) prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

Elohim is the primary word translated God and Theos in scripture. We can see Abraham was called an Elohim this was because he had a great tribe which he ruled over. It would be foolish to suggest the word Elohim means deity seeing Abraham was just a man. The word usage definition for Elohim used in this verse means ruler or something great.

(Exo 7:1 KJV) And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god (Elohim) to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

Moses was made a Elohim to Pharaoh. Some say that the translation is wrong and it says he was like a God to Pharaoh. The word made was translated from the Hebrew na^than which means to give in the sense Moses was given to be a God to Pharaoh. There is no possibility it is saying he is like God to Pharaoh. In any case what ever Moses was to Pharaoh that is what a Elohim is. I would not think one would suggest Moses was deity or a supernatural being. Moses was simply given power over Pharaoh to judge him he was put in authority over him. In this word usage for Elohim it means a ruler of Judge in authority.

(Exo 22:28) Thou shalt not revile the gods (Elohim), nor curse the ruler of thy people.

In the English translations Elohim translated God is also translated god in lowercase. This is because the translators where Trinitarians and did not understand the word themselves. There is no low case or uppercase Elohim the word is the same in the original Hebrew. It is foolish for someone to suggest they are different because one is uppercase and the other lowercase. In this verse all the rulers are called Elohim men of great authority.

(Act 23:4 KJV) And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?
(Act 23:5 KJV) Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

The high Preist of the Father who is the ruler of they people is one of the Elohim mentioned in Exodus 22:28. We can see the High priest is not deity or supernatural but indeed is an Elohim.

(Exo 21:6) Then his master shall bring him unto the judges (Elohim); he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

Throughout Exodus men in authority are called Elohim the word used in Moses day obviously did not mean deity or supernatural.

(Joh 10:35) If he called them gods (Theos from Elohim), unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Jesus himself made it clear that many men are called Elohim in scripture referencing Psalms 82

(Psa 82:6) I have said, Ye are gods (Elohim); and all of you are children of the most High.

In Psalms 82 The Father speaking to men said he has already called them Elohim. This was found in Moses writings as we have just seen. The Father was not saying they are supernatural beings or deity. He was clearly using the word for rulers and judges those in authority which was given by the Father to judge.

(Psa 8:5 KJV) For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

All of the Angels are Elohim as well persons of great authority.

The Title God does not mean deity in scripture. It is not a proper name for one person. It simply means something with great authority. Throughout scripture Yah was called the Elohim of Elohim or the God of Gods. If one says they have only one God they are saying they have only one ruler. If that ruler appoints another over him then he has two rulers over him but the one who is the final authority is the True Elohim over that man.
