Saw him in Coventry Theatre many years ago. About half-a-dozen rows filled, but THE best concert I have ever been to.
Thanks Steve.

Great. Saw him, Montreal Spectrum, late 70. Man, I wish I could remember......

It's so in the spirit of progressive rock and what Genesis use to be - this is piece is Hackett unleashed
-
Jeff Beck was finger tapping with the Yardbirds, when EVH was in barely nappies.

ONCE ABOVE A TIME IS SUBLIME ...JUST BOUGHT ...ITS THE SHIT!
-
@gyniest Steve Howe also tapped in the early seventies

@s0undch4s3r I read in a 1997 magazine (can't remember if it was Guitar World, Guitar Player or Guitar Magazine) that Eddie Van Halen later admitted that he saw Steve Hackett do the fretboard tapping when he saw Genesis back in the early-mid 70's. He first said in a 1995 Guitar World interview that he "....never saw anybody do it before, okay?"
-
@georgeman2468 ....completly agree, Andy can do it...so Steve!
-
Yep!

Is it true that Hackett was the first rock guitarist known to do finger tapping (before Ace Freley or VH)? I don't mean pick-tapping like Zappa or Brian May did in the 70's.

I'm not sure if he's the first. You say "rock guitarist". I'm sure there are non-rock guitarists that possibly did right hand tapping as far back as the earliest made guitars. I'm just guessing though.
