@rapartist43 In other words, he wasn't elected? I thought that I already said that?
Mugabe may be racist, but he doesn't follow racial policies. He reappropriated lands from White farmers, using propaganda where he promised to give land to the landless (which helped him gain support from the homeless). Those lands were given to family, and the military. Mugabe then started 'Operation Drive Out Rubbish', which resulted in many Black Zimbabweans being made homeless.

@57worldwide I wasn't speaking of presidency. You need to re-read my reply more carefully. He gained enough seats in order to put pressure on Hindenburg and to fool von Papen to become chancellor. He combined this position with that of the president after Hindenburg's death. I strongly believe that Mugabe is not only obsessed with Rhodesia but that he is a racist himself.

@rapartist43 Hitler was NOT elected. The highest proportion of votes he ever got was like 20% less than the person who was ELECTED tp Presidency. You might want to look into that.
I don't think Hitler is like Mugabe. Both are dictators, but Hitler's was officially a race based regime, whereas Mugabe's has pretty much crippled industry and infrastructure (without a war). Prisoners in Zim are not forced to produce goods. Mugabe wants to hold his power, Hitler wanted to quickly gain more territory.

@57worldwide Well, Hitler WAS elected actually. This enabled him to become chancellor in the first place. TIME Magazine named him Man Of The Year 1938...
Mugabe did and does intimidate people to vote for him. His first slogan was "vote Mugabe or you die", followed by various other such as the most recent I am aware of: "vote for me or starve" He is just like Hitler actually.

@rapartist43 Mugabe was elected, Hitler wasn't. Mugabe has given himself all the power, and he has made opposing him dangerous. Dissidents are arrested, tortured, and some just disappear. I don't think the change can actually come from within Zimbabwe, aside from a military coup.

@57worldwide Mugabe is a product of colonialism himself- it seems to me he is obsessed with colonialism. I expect Zims to have overcome that past, but many still seem to be stuck in it. many also seem to forget that the Brits themselves declared Rhodesia illegal. Germany's dictator ruined far more than Germany - you guys need to make sure Mugabe won't.
-
@rapartist43 Exactly, a dictator ruined Zimbabwe. Just like a dictator ruined Germany.
-
@57worldwide but white rule didn't ruin the country!
-
@payazaiskool so why are blacks in south africa living in squatter camps and thr crime rate is throught the roof?

@tzebra Think of it rather like this: the White rule of Zimbabwe brought about a revolution, this brought Mugabe into the politics, which resulted in the violence you mentioned. So, by excluding the White rulers which precluded Mugabe, you have omitted information and given a biased analysis of what Black rule is. I have to ask, do you think Mugabe is truly an example of Black rule or an example of a dictator?
Detroit to Zimbabwe, Black rule was preceded by White rule.
Instead of giving land to landless smallholders, nearly all of the 4,000 farms — the backbone of Zimbabwe's agricultural prosperity — were delivered to Mugabe's political cronies, his second wife, and other family members. This land grab might have served to right an historic injustice. Instead,it drove Zimbabwe headlong into penury and hunger. It also threw 400,000 African labourers out of work, crippledbanking sector, caused food scarcities, and sent Mugabe rushing to Libya and China for help

Congradulations, blacks once again turn a promising place into a violent cess pool. Doesn't matter where it is on the planet, black run institutions, neighborhoods, cities, etc, have always produced violence, starvation, homelessness, grief and sorrow; from Detroit to Zimbabwe
