James Joyce used Humpty Dumpty as a metaphor for a mythology which falls from the grip of authority, only to be reassembled by people on the fringe of society. This is a realization of new media paradigms. The internet as an example of how the arrival of a pervasive new medium serves to destroy the stability of invisible service environments, usually owned/possessed by rich and powerful men. Russian economist Nicholai Kondratiev also identified this phenomenon (Kondratiev Supercycles).

17th Century Civil War in England.
Humpty Dumpty was in fact originally the reference to a cannon that was set on a wall.
when Cromwell’s men had occupied Colchester, they had mounted a huge cannon on top of a fortified wall in an area known as St. Mary’s Wall Church’, which provided them with impressive fire-power. The huge cast-iron cannon was aimed and fired, strangely enough, by a character called ‘One-eyed Jack Thompson’. The cannon was called ‘Humpty Dumpty’

This performance doesn't really do it justice. He delivers it much better in another show.
