This is the General Guitar Gadgets replica of the famed 808™ Tube Screamer™. This build is the "Expensive Boutique" mod that includes a number of vital value changes such as a pot value, resistors, diodes, and capacitors, etc.

The toggle switch enables switching between diode clipping options. Far right utilizes red LEDs for clipping. The middle position utilizes standard diode clipping while the left position is asymmetrical diode clipping.

All clipping options are not created equal in output volume but that is of little matter as a slight adjustment to the volume knob makes up for this. Each option, however, has a unique tonal quality allowing this pedal to become very versatile.

If you'd like to try your hand at building this pedal, go to http://www.generalguitargadgets.com and purchase the complete mod kit (which includes all the parts for several options) or have Jason at StompTone build you one. Contact Jason at http://www.StompTone.com for a pre-built pedal.

In this video, the pedal was demonstrated using a 1983 Les Paul Deluxe through a Carvin Vintage 50 amp on the clean channel into an Carvin Vintage 4x10 cabinet. One George Ls™ and one Monster Rock™ cable were used.

  • I'm getting into pedal building, would you recommend this kit to get started?

  • @Gregchilcott: It's not the most difficult nor the easiest one to build (especially considering the toggle wiring). But I wouldn't let it discourage you if you are set on it. I normally recommend something like the SBB from GGG as a first build to get familiar with basic techniques, etc. Some kit providers will claim "all of them are easy and anyone can do it" but it's really not the case for some. There is skill in soldering, routing wires, etc. But these skills can be acquired.

  • @Gregchilcott: Patience and a careful purposeful pace (checking and rechecking) as you go are the best advice I can give. Good luck with your build.

  • Any reason why the tone knob was not adjusted??

  • @97teledlx I probably should have adjusted it to show its tonal varieties but I did not. No reason for not doing so.

  • @jriv454 if you order the 'mod option', all the components for every mod listed on the GGG site are included. Thanks for the props.

  • does the amz fat mod come with the mod option? nice video by the way.

  • @StompTone ah, awesome :) thanks.

  • @dom4guitar It's switching between diode clipping options such as symmetrical vs. asymmetrical to provide different types of distortion.

  • what does the three-way switch do? i know it changes the sound but what is it actually doing when it's in the different positions?
