On February 18th this year the BBC finally replaces its magnetic rubber weather symbols with the world's most advanced computerised meteorological display system. 10 months later on December 29th Radio 1 DJ Richard Skinner presents the UK Top 40 of 1985. Thanks to JV for these excellent recordings.

I'm not much of a sentimentalist - but I love the music from around this time and I had this very chart on a cassette for years. Stupidly I threw it out without digitising it first so I AM DELIGHTED to have this here. I guess it's nostalgia more than anything now but this is so evocative of school, home, parents, exercise books and Sunday afternoons taping the charts.
