This is our game WordMonger that we are making for iPhone and Zune HD. We built it over the last few weeks using the new MonoTouch toolkit on the Mac. Yesterday we ported it to the Zune HD in 12 hours! We are really hoping that Microsoft can provide a way to publish third party games on the Zune app store soon.

With a bit of luck we should have the iPhone version out by thanksgiving!

By the way, we are tired... been a long night - so please excuse the shaky video.

  • can we word that to when it opens to the public i don't like "if". also a quick easy fix to sound would be a trip to computer junkyard. alot of old external pc speakers used nothing more the an aux plug.

  • @CrazyAlkyGT Right, it was 5.30am when we made the video and we were pretty tired and weren't thinking about it too much. Next time we'll hook it up to a 5.1 surround sound system to make up for it :D It's really up to Microsoft to change "if" to "when"!!

  • Does the ZuneHD/win7 versions include sound in the future?

  • @4medd The ZuneHD version does have sound - it's working fine. When we made the video we didn't have a good way to record the sound because it comes out of the headphones. We'll try and figure out a way to record the sound for our next video.

  • man yall making alot of headlines foundation42. I was just googling zune hd games and the first 3 were about how you were able to port this game in just 12 hours. this is great news for the zune hd. It looks like when ms opens up to third party there can be a flood of apps. I hope this happens soon This game would be a sweet addition to my zune.

  • @CrazyAlkyGT We are just as surprised as everyone! All we did was send a tweet to some friends of ours telling them to watch our video and things went crazy with all the retweets. We'll be queuing up to be first in line if the Zune app store goes public.

  • Wow, just 12 hours to port this? I was doing some research about zunes and ipod touches trying to decide which to get tomorrow. I think zune beats ipod in just about every category except that it doesn't have bluetooth or a good app store. If they don't open the app store to the public, then they're just asking to lose the battle with the ipod touch.

  • I'm baffled...I never thought I would see the day someone would actually leave an intelligent comment on youtube. And yeah, I 100% agree that if they open a public app store the Zune HD has a good chance of out-doing the iPod Touch on all fronts.

  • @bucelic You can't. MS decided not to compete with the App Store. Shame.

  • where can we download it for the ZuneHD?

  • not sure if it's already been stated, but you could always submit it to zhdapps.com, it would be for free though, but it's a good place to get started

  • buddy when can i play wormmonger on my zune.

can u release a beta just for us?

  • they already have the software available to the public, it's just not integrated to the zune yet. basically they provided you with the software to create, and download your own, or other peoples apps. it's just not built into the zune itself.

  • also not having apps is bad because that means no youtube or other flash things. The only confirmed apps are facebook and twitter, but their mobile sites are just as good as an app anyway. I thought i wasn't going to buy games so i thought it wouldn't be a big deal with the zune but now i can't stop downloading them on my ipod. I've been a m$ fanboy forever...my mac friends laugh and my m$ friends are disappointed with me. At the end of the day, I am SO glad i have my ipod over the zune hd tho.

  • I GOT THE ZUNE HD!!! :-)

Traded it in after 4 days...

Screen has amazing colors and deep blacks, navigation is really good, not many apps as expected, they take long to launch, games aren't really that much fun. The nail in the coffin is that it doesn't work on my colleges wifi network so i can't connect on campus. I live off campus, but this lack of security logon takes away a lot from the zune. Ipod is amazing, 85000 apps. I was the guy who said i wouldn't play games, but i've gotten many
