"We must be in the final rounds of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, because the critics' white gloves are coming off. Which makes it difficult for Scorecard to declare who got knocked out in today's reviews. Whose bowler hats didn't bowl over the critics? Whose helmet hats were a little too Mugler-esque? Whose boho-French-Native-American remix hit the right note?....."
(Sophie Theallet declared the winner)

NY Times / Cathy Horyn
Sophie Theallet's clothes don't resemble anyone else's. Her small show
Tuesday drew an impressive crowd of editors and friends like Rupert
Everett and Loulou de la Falaise. Her fall collection, inspired by
Native Americans, consisted mainly of dresses in silk and velvet with
delicate pin-tucking and tiers. The rich palette of deep oranges, red
and browns was all French, however, like a plate of petit-fours.

Sometimes a collection can be remarkable for being self-contained.
Sophie Theallet's exploration of America's Cherokee Indian revisited a
world last seen in early Ralph Lauren collections. The French-born
designer took a refreshingly modest approach, showing dresses in rich,
earthy colors, some flower-printed; headbands and moccasin boots
adding a hint of the context. It was Big Country America - an original
destination now that so many designers are obsessed with urban chic.
