David Sparks (Guitar) and Earnie Taft (violin) lead this Robert Tannahill song during a Night with the Keltic Dead performance in Allen, Texas last March (2009) as part of an Allen, Texas Public Library sponsored cultural event. Mark Kenneth (Roland Accordion champion) and Shaun-Patrick O. Young (harmonica) support these two musicians during this traditional song and tune.

  • A gent named Roger Helfrick does a similar version of which I enjoy quite a bit.

I can not find it on the tube unfortunately :)

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it. We had a great time playing it. I'm planning on making some more 'studio' recordings of the tune on my harmonica, and will post them when I get them polished up.

Hi lads ! Gallant effort, but you might take on board one or two pointers from an old dog .... firstlly : this is Gaelic Folk Music - be familiar and tight with your music, if performing live on stage.... reading words from sheets is not great, even in an informal session.

Secondly : a wee bit more life - umph - 5th gear not 4th, if you can manage it. at all. Thirdly, when performing live on stage, try to curb vocal wobbles, and get the blend of your instruments spot on.

  • Thanks Tom. Did you also notice that David's amp wasn't turned on either? The sound crew (the best in the business by the way), Mark Kenneth, and Earnie Taft did a great job in filling in. The staged event was in connection with the Allen, Texas Cultural Arts initiative, where we were to provide "education" and "entertainment." Kinda slowed us down a bit, and we had only a few sessions together to get things "tight." We had a lot of fun though, and that's what counts. Thanks for feedback.
