I'm more interested in finding out the truth of my heritage than claiming to be something I'm not. My aunt looks like she might have Indian blood in her, so did both my Uncles, but my mother inherited much lighter features, and all her children don't have many native features at all.
I think what I was trying to say on your "part Cherokee?" post would be better said here. I can understand the tired and annoyed feeling of people constantly claiming. None of my mother's family looked Indian at all, but my mother's father was a bigot and would never have admitted to being part Indian. However, he looked more native than any of us did. My point is, am I part Cherokee? Maybe, that's what family has been saying. I'm curious, though, what tribe did my grandfather have in his blood?
Yes this is the issue if you are 1/2 white and half native ( which I am as well) I also find tha twhen you are blonde and say you are half native the native poeples are the one that just don't like it. I have said and will alsways say that I am who I am and when I get the looks I feel good inside...I say "you are prejudice my friend..and now "I " know it>>>it is a good feeling to be who you are and be proud of who you are. weather it's popular or not...it's who you are.
As a mixed person like yourself, I get into these issues as well. Growing up black (plus a quarter native on that side), Italian and Irish, I saw both sides of every racial argument and how things really were as opposed to only through the eyes of one race. It actually put me in a position to learn so much more than the average person. You're definitely right though, most people feel they have to choose sides, and when it comes to Hollywood its always been white.
excellent post! Same issue in the black community. That picture of that Jersey Shore guy what is his ancestry? Anyhoo your right, a lot of Sicilians be frontin like they dont have some black ancestry in them.
