Don't forget, Soviet Union and Russia is VERY different countries. Soviet Union for example had more population then USA. And Russia don't have even half of USA population.

Soviet Union had influence on over half of the word, but who cares about current Russia other then CIS countries? And Soviet Space program was definitely Soviet, not Russian. With dozens research institutions and hundreds production facilities emploing hundreds of thousands(if not mlns)of Ukrainians, Georgians, Kazakhs etc
