Gas prices leave New Mexico drivers stranded

KOB Eyewitness News 4 did some digging Monday, and found that in the first few months of 2011, Triple A has seen a 21 percent increase in the number of drivers requesting emergency gasoline assistance, because their tanks went empty.
Officials say that's because many are choosing to drain their tanks all the way because of high gas prices instead of filling up just when it gets low.
Jenny Hartzog was stranded last month when she ran out of gas, because she could only afford to put five or ten dollars in her tank.
"the economy is really bad and people don't have a lot of money and when gas is upwards of four dollars a gallon, it's really hard to fill up more than a few dollars at a time if it's between that and food."
AAA says gas prices could be tapering off soon. Traditionally prices peak around mid-May or June, and analysts say prices have already begun leveling out.
AAA says the most safest, and cost-effective way to fill up your tank is to do it once it gets down to a quarter of a tank, and not let it go

Exxon paid ZERO TAX last year, earned HISTORIC RECORD PROFITS & conveniently accepted CORPORATE WELFARE in the form TAX PAYER based government subsidies.SINCE 1976 oil co's have refused to build any new refineries.This while WORKING AMERICANS suffer the pain of 4 dollar+/gallon .OUR AMERICAN GOVERNMENT should STOP CORPORATE WELFARE& force them to PAY TAXES. After all CORPORATIONS ARE NOW PEOPLE.. If an oil company refuses to build a new refinery the government should SEIZE it's ASSETS.

I wonder why it's so high....think about this. Where's ALL of the oil coming from to power everything on Earth, everyday?! IT IS MIND BLOWING! I think it is leveling the oil coming out of the Earth with everything constantly going, the reason you see that dreadful price at the pump. The oceans would have been leveled a bit by now if vehicles ran on salt water, since Henry Ford's days. Will OIL run out one day? Yes, i've got a feeling it will. Horse & buggy days will repeat, wait & see...

@loz957 yes but i like my muscle car and changed the motor in it to get better gas mileage. I will not drive a diesel car theyre slow.

A Diesel haha yeah we wish to god we had diesel options over here we got 1 in small cars . Volkswagon . and mercedes for mid size thats it .. others are ford dodge and chevy/gmc pickups for diesel

Your gas is so cheap. In the UK we are paying (and have been for some time) the equivilent of $8.70 per gallon. Get over it. Drive less and walk/cycle more. Replace your gas car with a diesel one. You will soon notice your wallet getting fuller.
