El Hacho

This amazing bridge was made by the followers of Gustaf Eiffel. It is one of the the largest bridges of Spain, 650 metres long and 50 metres high. It was constructed in 1894. The bridge is hidden in between two isolated Andalusian villages, Guadahortuna and Alamedilla.

This bridge was the one in the film the North West Frontier (1959) with Kenneth Moore and Lauren Bacall .Where it had been partially blown up by the rebels and the train had to pass over the hole which had been left! The other railways scenes in the film were filmed in this area of Spain. Viaduct was due for demolition but saved by the locals.Replaced by the adjacent concrete viaduct in 1970.

Soy de Guadahortuna (Granada), y he disfrutado de la belleza y magia de este puente desde mi niñez. Mi padre nos colocaba en uno de sus balcones colgados al río y esperabamos, a que el tren pasara. Como sus torres están montadas sobre rodillos móviles, la sensación era de que todo el puente se balanceaba sobre sí mismo al paso de los trenes.El estado de conservación del puente del hacho es lamentable, Felicitaciones a los autores del viídeo; es excelente su montaje!.
