Collapsed trachea and reverse sneezing are two different things. Reverse sneezing is harmless to a pet, collapsed trachea is not. It's always best to get a vet's opinion. The vet told me that the collapsing trachea is more like one HONK and then they are fine, as it opens the pathway. The reverse sneezing is not treatable, but not harmfull either. Again, best to see a vet rather than diagnose yourself......
Help me. I have a 3 yr old chihuahua and its makes the honky noise like i see on the video. Took it to the vet did xrays and so on. (not cheap) gave him meds and said its his trachea/windpipe and might need surgery to put in a stent.
Help! any home remedies?????
and he won't eat his own food, he likes human food and i can't get him off of it. Any tips?
...and by the way my vet did it to my dog so this is how I learned this little magical trick, pince his nose so he breeze through his mouth, du-laaaa!!!...it works right away and it is weird cause since I do it my Chi doesn t have this crisis often anymore....
he doesn t sneeze!!! his trachea collapses, typical for a Chihuahua, just close his nose with your fingers so he will open his mouth to breeze and the muscles will push the trachea in it normal position so he can breeze normally...what you see here is a chihuahua missing air, it is not cool!
@SakiWatari Everything i have read, says that it is normal for the breed. Mine had done it on occasion, but it has gotten worse as he has aged. He is now 7 yrs. old. I would not worry, just get the little guy to calm down if you can. I have another dog that does it after she drinks water. I think it sounds worse than it really is. These little dogs have issues with their trachea collapsing, and if they relax the muscles, it stops.
My Chihuahua puppy (almost 2 months) does this... But sometimes she'll vomit after she does it. Usually if she's been very active before it starts. Do you have any advice for me? I'm going to take her to a vet as soon as I can though.

@MsAlisonp I looked it up bc my chihuahua does it too. Supposedly it's very common and harmless.
