Nice groove. I agree that it's a little too fast and gets a bit rushy towards the sax solo.
The original version was written in 100-104 bpm. I don't have it, but I am trying to get one.
I might have it somewhere on audio tape. Could ask the conductor of the old band.
This used to be my favorite tune when I was the bass player of the West Coast Big Band back in 1990.

my high school's jazz is playing this and i love it - i play alto 1 so i get the solo and the only thing i changed was the last measure of the solo because i didnt like what they had written - if your band plays it fast its not by much - our band only plays a little slower

we have always played it like this version. For me isn't vey fast, but I have never listened the original version.
