I paid my last visit of the year to the East Lancashire Railway on 20th November 2011. I met a couple of good friends and spent a few hours travelling on the DMU and behind 80080, the crew had to work extremely hard between Ramsbottom and Irwell Vale on the 1310 ex Bury. It is not often you get to witness a race between a Locomotive and a gentleman with a wheel barrow.
I also took the opportunity to have a look at the results of all the hard work the ELR volunteers have put in preparing for the invasion of children eager to meet Santa.
You guys have done a fantastic job and I am sure the kids will love it.
Another great day, In fact another great year at The East Lancashire Railway.

  • The wheelbarrow was winning until he ran out of steam. Probably all the fat sods in the dining cars to blame, eaten too much pudding again!:-) 5*

  • @growler37

You could be right :- ) They probably didn't even notice.

  • To be entirely fair, I suppose, it did have 8 coaches. Weren't the sanders working, though?

  • @AndreiTupolev

You'r right there, it was a fair old weight to haul.I could be wrong but it looked to me like they were putting sand down by hand in addition to the sanders.

I was just glad to have witnessed their skills.

  • With the diner attached to the 4-car day train, load behind the drawbar will be about 280-290 Tons.
