There are few places on earth as glamorous and exclusive as Gstaad, nestled in the Swiss Alps. To say that the landscape and vistas are fairy tale is to do the place a serious disservice. It is one of the most outstanding places of natural beauty in the world. The town of Gstaad is a picture perfect alpine town, with a promenade and a number of exclusive shopping boutiques, expanding into a lazy sprawl of chalets and grand Hotels, of which the Palace is the most luxurious and world renowned. It is one of the biggest skiing resorts in Switzerland and boasts some of the best night life and dining experiences not only in the Alps but in the world at large. It is a place of romance and legendary luxury and has a resident list to show for it. Most of the Crowned Heads of Europe have traditionally owned property in Gstaad as well as many stars of stage and screen as well as a long list of the world's most influential business leaders and world leaders. In any of the luxury bars or restaurants you are likely to see Julie Andrews & Blake Edwards, King Carlos of Spain or Greece or Formula One 's Bernie Ecclestone relaxing après Ski. Gstaad has always attracted the best and the brightest of the world, David Niven was a regular at many of the bars as he often stayed in his chalet in nearby Chateau d'Oex and his friend Peter Sellers was also a resident until his untimely death, and innumerable Lords Barons and Peers of England and Europe, notably many members of the House of Cavendish.
Gstaad also has its share of cultural significance being a residence of such artists as Yehudi Menuhin, the Virtuoso and the composer Benjamin Britten, as well as the legendary director Roman Polanski. To reflect this cultural heritage the town holds an annual classical music festival named after the late Menuhin, which is now considered being one of the finest of its kind in the world. Other more popular musical stars have called Gstaad home, the most famous of these surely the legendary Johnny Hallyday, and of course more recently Michael Jackson. Gstaad is that sort of place where the rich and famous rub shoulders with each other and the culture that has grown up around such people is of course one of extreme luxury. Its service culture is legendary in the world, it is above and beyond Rodeo Drive, Mayfair or any other such place. It boasts the finest Hotels and restaurants and bars and nightlife second to none. And of course if you tire of all of that, there is always the skiing.
