My favorite version of the original opening theme--just the right tempo. There was no one quite like Telly Savalas and his cynical-cop-with-a-heart alter ego, Theo Kojak. Glad we had the sense back then to make this show a hit. I would love the chance to see the gritty tv movie-pilot that started it all, "The Marcus-Nelson Murders"--somehow I missed it when it aired back in '73.

I am also partial to this particular opening...I didn't really care for that odd last one that they used.

The only actor I think could pull off a character this strong today would be Brian Dennehy.
(Maybe). He has the panache of Savalas with a bit of rough a round the edges.

I mean that here in our country we used to call anyone who had a bald head Kojak too, like you, I suppose he influenced us the same.
