@disndat11 It depends on the people - some raise 'meaties' some raise egg layers. Although a couple of these might be considered dual purpose, I don't intend to eat them. They are 'pets with a purpose'. The eggs are good enough for me. I've heard that folks with larger flocks may even get attached to a few that stay as 'not on the dinner list' pets.
One question though. A friend of mine told me that when you grow chickens, they become like your children and you will never eat them. Have you found that to be true? I mean do you get attached to them to a point where you can not see yourself eating them any more?
