Well good, I was just wondering. So often people will compare the U.S. of 100 or 250 years ago with the world of today, to say the U.S. today comparatively sucks and is a terrible place. Reality is that with everything considered the U.S. has mostly been a relatively good place for anyone to live, compared to most other places in the world at the same point in time.

There is no such thing as a "good country" but there is such thing as a best place to live.

People who have things in common create countries. Try to stop it. Even if there were no countries but only one world full of people, there would still be problems, like criminal gangs, etc., just as there is now.

hm, its strange, but national states are a phenomenon of the capitalist / civil age. beside that fact, the "have things in common" -argument is very weak. i'm from saxony in germany.what do i have in common with a rich financier from hamburg ore wherever?! not even the language:-) national states are not natural, god-given or whatever. they are connected to the recent social relationships. sorry, my english could be better^^

Before there were national states, societies were tribal. What tribe members have in commons are natural things such as genetics, language, cultural heritage etc. Shared technology developments have shrunk the world in effect and brought different peoples together who have had to deal with each other for sake of doing business, sharing information, and access to resources. Although such change can be quite stressful, I dont know what is not natural about it.
