  • Jupiter, the shield of our solar system.

  • Life just wouldn't be the same without it! :O)

  • Hi again what do you think of the possibility that Jupiter has been described as a sun that never had enough mass to ignite, Cheers

  • Yes, thats the theory, and i think a very good one. Though you would need a major amount of mass for that to happen. Jupiter just ran out of things to eat. As the majority of solar systems discovered so far are binary, then it stands to reason that Jupiter could have been our binary star. If that had happened, then you can imagine how different things would have been. All the best! :O)

  • Speaking of "masses". I was out last night with my wee telescope having a look at Betelgeuse, visible under Orion in N.Z . Impressive and to think that star would reach out past earth if it was in Sol's position boggles the mind and it is by no means the largest known star.

To think people are more interested in the nonsense of the 2012 idiocy, the true magnitude of the reality and beauty of our universe is just above our heads.

Do you know of any idiot proof manuals for building a dobsonian?

  • I totally agree!!! As for the dobsonian, i don't know myself. I do however, remember looking this up on the web a long time ago, and i did find some interesting sites. Search google for: build your own dobsonian. Hope that helps. :O)

  • Liquid mass expand indefinitely Jupiter the fifth.

  • lol and they still call it a planet, earth is like a mini pluto compared to it

  • @nzer48 Most any object of sufficient size becomes a sun, or more accurately, a star; you could argue that any object that accrues (or even has) mass is a potential sun, requiring just between zero and one further solar masses to ignite. While it is also true that stardom is not inevitable for all large celestial objects, it is certainly a likely outcome.

  • Respond to this video... Why is jupiter shrinking ?
