In this final installment, traditional Sheffield knifemaker Trevor Ablett shows how he rivets the folding knife together.

This video is taken from observational field recordings, part of a joint research project between contemporary knife maker Grace Horne and multimedia designer Nicola Wood, both based at Sheffield Hallam University.

  • thanks nicola and grace, these vid's are amazing.

    regards, john.

  • Thanks for posting this, I own several of Mester Abletts knives (my mate used to work in the shop beneath his) and have used one of his curved bladed pruning knives at work for the last 10-11 years. It's that sharp i can shave with it and although it's used daily it rarely needs sharpening. This is one of a dying breed. It's sad but Sheffield is losing its heritage. Soon the only reminder will be the Blades (fc)

  • This is one of the last of the Little Meisters of Sheffield England. You are watching a treasure of knowledge and skill that will be gone someday.

  • Thank you for this nice video
