In 2005, while undergoing chemotherapy, James Hempenstall lost most of his eyesight and his ability to walk was severely affected. Throughout his time in hospital it was James' constant wish to raise money for the work of the Starlight Foundation and in early 2006 the idea of a variety concert was born. After the usual creative brainstorming we came up with the title "Beneath the Stars" -- Songs of Hope and Joy. It would be held on the River Stage in the Brisbane Botanical Gardens so families could bring their children and sit on the grass and have a great night out -- Beneath the Stars.
