This is just a quick video, mostly audio, of what the new Whistle Phone app for iPad sounds like. Whistle is a VoiP app which turns your iPad into a phone through wifi and 3G! The call quality can still be spotty, but Whistle is on to something with this app. Keep reading www.iPhoneLife.com

  • Does this whistle app cost anything, or have a regular fee? When someone says free they need to qualify that these days because free does not necessarily mean free.

  • @justgivemethetruth There are two options, the first is what I use which is advertisement paid call. You listen to a very brief ad (this pays for the call) then the call goes through. The second option is of course prepay for how ever many minutes you want, which is cheap, inline with most VoIP rates e.g. Vonage, etc. It's the ad paid component I think is unique and makes it a real cost saver since unlike Skype this calls through to regular land or cellular numbers without paying anything.

  • can use wifi to call ...

  • @24xiaokai I've used wifi and 3G to call, since I got another iPad with 3G.

  • can call other people ... etiher than ur mother???

  • @24xiaokai Of course you can call anyone, but it was a mothers day call.

  • @jellybeenism I am not certain, but I do not think so just yet. There are other mobile VoIP services in Europe, look around the web they should pop right up.

  • you probably have your volume up too high.

  • @thxango40 I'm just stoked that I have another phone option, one more way to save a few bucks! I have to say it's actually been working fine without headphone/mic, this was the only call my mother heard an echo.

  • The mic is picking up the speaker. Headphones get rid of the echo. :)
