  • Cant we just agree that the question is not properly defined?

  • what if you had 48/(2*(9+3))...then it would be 2 right?

  • The Question is defined well enough 48 / 2 ( 9 + 3 ) so we follow P E MD AS

    P = 48 / 2 ( 12 ) or 48 / 2 * 12

    E = 48 / 2 * 12 no change cause there are no exponents

    MD = 24 * 12 = 288 because multiplication and division have the same weight and you go left to right from there

    AS = 288 no change cause the is no addition or subtraction

    Answer 288

    or to write it like he has it

    it would look like 48

    ------ (9+3) 2

    because the 2 is not paired with the (9+3)

  • This is stupid. Ambiguously stupid.

    Here is another funny way to write this, 48/(9+3)+(9+3). And guess what? It is also ambiguous, it needs parenthesis.

    Don't guide yourself by the answers a computer spits out. The machine is programmed to solve problems in a certain way, but it doesn't know what the user is doing. When it encounters poorly written instructions it follows it's built in rules, and comes up with a result. That doesn't mean it's the result you are looking for.

  • @nao1163 Yes.

  • @redyogi No, I'm sorry. I fail to see how this problem is not properly defined. It's simple math operations. The above solution IS correct. just remember that for BEDMAS the multiplication-division and addition-subtraction act left to right. Don't add extra brackets where you think they "might" be.

  • I just typed it into a calculator and got 288. thats how math works right? lol

  • @Jwallermusic Ahaa, vi ? A fun little thing to do, create a varient of it. Like "I need to catch a chansey *or* (her words) a happiny holding a lucky egg" can be take as either; A (Chansey) or (happiny holding a lucky egg) or taken as (Chansey or Happiny) (holding a lucky egg). . Need to be a poke-freak to get it. But i figured i'd explain it for people who don't understand by your lack of explaining.

  • Basic math!

  • 2 is multiplier you made it divider whitch and its clearly doesnt multiply anything anymore in that case it shoulnt exist. 48 is not multplier its real number and it should be treated as it.
