  • We see all the crap that individualism produces; the hacks on the radio preaching about this "rugged individualism" hours and hours everyday. America is full of rot. She's swallowed the poisoned pill of her own destruction.

  • It is when all individualists are destroyed that the collectivist can truly proclaim that he is the best among people in society.I agree with your point that rather than the critics who deicde what is high and low culture,it should be the people who use that culture who judge what is high and low.Their own judgement is the final authority.the people who listen to rap music should decide what is good rap and therefore high culture and what is bad rap and therfore low culture.

  • He does not go about razing all the shrines. Doing so will cause alarm. He enshrines mediocrity and this single act razes all the shrines. By shrines I mean the true geniuses in the the field of art, architechture etc. By calling mediocre architetcs great geniuses, he destroys all the great architects. The people who decide what is high culture and what composes low culture are the critics.

  • The collectivist does not stand a chance against the individualsit. Indeed, the collectivist is dammed by his own incompetence. The only way the collectivist can come up in life is by destrotying all individualists. Now, he cannot do this by identifying all the individualists one by one and then destroying them. The method he uses is by polluting the field of ideas and intellectualism. He takes the role of a critic and then endorses mediocre and bad artists.

  • possess no great talent or genius whatsoever and cannot produce a piece of original work. They are not capable of doing it. They live as second handers and parasites and basically take credit for other people's work. They live off of other people. The only real threat to such people is the second type of person in society - the individualist. The individualist lives for own sake and is a self satisfied soul. He is the original creator and producer.

  • From there on, they can make and break careers of artists as they desire. What happens is that the world laps and takes in every comma, full stop and exclamation mark spoken by the critic and take his word to be final. NYtimes had a column for architechture where a single critic wrote about buildings till he retired. The point of it all is that these people look at society as composed of two types of people. One is themselves who they call the collectivists. They admit to themsleves that they

  • spot on.I think high vs low culture is a dichotomy presented to the world so that society can be classified into two groups -the elites and the masses. If you follow the critics in the field of art, architechture to name a few, you will observe that these so called critics are actually self proclaimed experts who really have limited to no exposure when it comes to them having worked in the field that they are giving opinions about. They take the role of "informal advisers" to the media and masses

  • entertaining and informative it showed that not only american teens relate to the information shown but also in a way all teenagers around the world can relate to this video even if the examples of texts used are different. I like the idea that it is our choice in deciding what is of value and the difference between the high and low cultures.

  • helped out with my paper on high context vs low context cultures..thnx

  • have to say i find that we can't exactly change what is high culture and what is low/popular culture. low/popular culture is ideas that are shared within a mass of people. I'm pretty sure that 3/4 of britain would rather watch britains got talent than listen to Handels 1st and 2nd movement. People may have a variety of both cultures for example someone may play an instrument but enjoy eastenders. it was informative though, just a little out of context.
