  • Liberals have not grasped that when a nation dies, that nations culture and institutions always perish with it.When European-Canadian people finally become an ethnic minority in this land sometime in the future, and our grip is pried from the levers of power through sheer weight of demography, the values of the Liberal elite will be swept away by the monster they have themselves created.

Conservative or liberal, either way we're skrewed.

In the budget of 2006 the Conservative Govt attached a clause that would permit "sub prime" mortgages in Canada. Long term mortgages like 40 yrs was introduced thinking it would be good for us. Then the US housing burst happened and now we are exposed to this same dangers because of the Conservatives. Now the Govt keep on saying we are in better shape than US..for months that is there message. Now, we are going to the same predicament. Harper is now saying we are in same like the US.

  • Thank God for our Conservative majority.

  • Did 60 per cent of the electorate vote "against" the Conservatives, as Don suggests in his CBCish way, or did they simply choose to support other parties?

  • @cynaru1234 smaller parties? Like the Bloc Quebecois, the Liberals and the NDP? Oh ya, small parties. As well as separatist parties....Actually the Conservatives are the only major party who get the vast majority of their funds from small donations by members and Canadians, its the Liberals who have always been known as the party to get donations from big business and the NDP who get donations from the big Unions

  • ameneses, I am talking about the dumb logic of saying that 62% of the ppl voted against harper. if you believe in that you are dumb and have no logic. The democracy is that people elected a conservative government and just because they don't fit with your ideals, they have been voted in so continue your crying. Even lib senators have said that the coalition was undemocratic and now libs will back away from it bc of the public backlash against it. be informed before u embarrass yourself further.

  • I don't care about what you think because we could just go back and forth on partisan views. The findings of Supreme court of Canada and the Gomery Commission are not stuff that I made up. The fact that given the choices of 4 parties. Most people voted for the conservatives is not something I made up. I mean you can twist it all you want... how you can add up votes but the point is no one voted for lib-ndp-bloc. These are facts and they are undeniable.

Parliamentary Democracy...I bet you havent heard of that!!!Logic?? Whats the logic of keeping an impotent Govt in a time of crisis? Whats the logicof keeping a Govt that is prone in mistakes and the very same ones who put us in a very volatile situation? Coalition Govt is very DEMOCRATIC as the election that we had 2 months ago. Dont define democracy to your personla liking but apply it's full global definition in a Parliamentary form of Govt.

  • Every party does things differently which the population that did not vote for them would likely have problems with.

The point is the majority of ppl, given the 4 avail choices voted for Conservatives so we have to live with it until the next election. That's democracy. Don't tell me the 62% combined votes of NDP-Lib-Bloc-Canadian idol arguement. I hope you have some logic and not another uncritical lib card holder. i am not necessarily for conservatives, I am for logic and democracy.

  • The Libs were the best. It was unconstitutional, yes. But it was a technicality. All they needed to do was get the approval of parliament which was easy (themselves + NDP would pass it). Its too late for action, anyways. What you need to ask is why Harper wants to eliminate public funding so the opposition goes bankrupt and he stays as P.M. forever without opposition! He could re-write the constitution without the province's approval if he has 250 seats, which would be easy without opposition!
