Describes head removal from pulled engine.

Car has 200K miles, engine has been loosing coolant & overheating. Leakdown test and coolant system pressure test are fine. No water found in oil or vise-versa but the inside of the overflow tank is sooty and these engines are notorious for blowing head gaskets.

I've heard some guys do a head-gasket job in the car. It's possible but pulling the engine really wasn't much more work and it's much easier to do a thorough job cleaning and inspecting the block with the engine sitting on a stand.

  • The seized bearing being pointed out is actually the pilot bearing not the throw-out bearing.

The throw-out bearing is the bigger one that attaches to the clutch fork and presses on the pressure plate to disengage the clutch.

The little pilot bearing sits inside the flywheel

  • @kainam00 Correct, I miss-spoke.

  • Me and my Dad did the same thing to my 97 legacy 2.5 gt,, just 2 years ago.. it was the head gasket,, but just the other day it ran hot on me and now there is water in the oil, and i hope its not a head, i hope its just a head gasket again, cause i can not find a head for this car. a guy at subaru said my car was rare,, 19 legacy 2.5 gt non turbo.. most of these cars like mine are station wagon,, and turbo.. mine is non turbo and sadan.

  • That's a nice shop you have.
