Mayor Robert J. Lovero delivered a press conference, on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, announcing that "the City of Berwyn has initiated the process to declare the City of Berwyn a Disaster Area.". With an estimated $700,000 in damages to Berwyn's residential and commercial properties, Mayor Lovero stated that the city will need to appeal to the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and possibly the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for emergency relief funds to help offset the costs of repairing the damaged properties.
