Dr. Eric Horvitz, Principal Researcher & Research Area Manager at Microsoft Research, and a member of the workshop organizing committee, moderated the Thursday afternoon plenary session. Dr. William Rouse, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech, described healthcare as a complex adaptive system and charted a systems-based approach forward. Dr. Dietrich Stephan, co-founder & Chief Science Officer at the personalized genomics company Navigenics, articulated a vision for how personalized medicine would lie at the center of the future healthcare system. At the conclusion of the talks, Keith Strier gave the attendees a charge for their afternoon breakout session.
