Equilibrium: Hand of Sorrow

This music video follows the character progression of John Preston (played by Christian Bale) from the dystopian-themed movie, Equilibrium. The clips are synchronized to the song "Hand of Sorrow," by Within Temptation.

Primarily, I focus on Preston's internal conflict which follows this progression:
1) Senseless and calculating killer in service to the government
2) Grief/Sorrow/Guilt for all the pain he has inflicted and loved ones he's lost
3) Repentance and transformation into a resistance fighter against the evil that he used to enforce.

This last internal conflict leads to an external conflict with the government and its dictator. This conflict is emphasized at the end of the video.

I tried to weave several messages into this movie, but the most important message is the response to the last line of each chorus: "Will all our sins be justified?" I answer this question at the conclusion of the music video. Secondary messages advocate the importance of individualism and the necessity to sometimes resist unjust authority.
